  • Grok is a generative AI chatbot developed by xAI, a company founded by Elon Musk.
  • xAI announced that it has made Grok open source, fulfilling a promise made by Musk a week ago.
  • The decision to open source Grok came after Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, another prominent AI company, accusing them of deviating from its founding values ​​of transparency and sharing technology for the good of humanity.

Agniban SOrTeD rocket

  • Agnikul Cosmos is a Chennai-based, IIT-Madras-incubated space start-up that is all set to create history by launching India's first rocket from a private launchpad on March 22, 2023.
  • The company's first rocket, the Agniban Sub Orbital Technology Demonstrator (SOrTeD), will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The launch of Agniban SOrTeD is significant for several reasons:
  • This will be India's first launch from a private launchpad. It will be India's first semi-cryogenic rocket launch. It will have the world's first single piece 3D printed engine to be indigenously designed and manufactured.

ILO Report on the Profits of Forced Labour

World Climate Report 2023

  • The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its State of the Global Climate Report 2023, which confirmed that 2023 will be the warmest year on record.
  • The report highlights alarming trends in various climate indicators, including record greenhouse gas levels, surface temperatures, ocean warming and acidification, sea level rise, Antarctic sea ice cover and glacier retreat.
  • The global mean near surface temperature in 2023 was 1.45 ± 0.12 °C above the pre-industrial (1850–1900) mean, making it the warmest year in the 174-year observational record.
  • The previous warmest years were 2016 1.29 ± 0.12 °C and 2020 1.27 ± 0.13 °C above the 1850–1900 average.

RBI State of the Economy Report (March 2024)

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its 'State of the Economy' report in March 2024, which provided insights into the country's economic performance and outlook.
  • The report, written by RBI staff including Deputy Governor MD Patra, highlighted the need for monetary policy to remain on a de-risking path to move inflation towards the 4% target.
  • Citing data from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES), it also highlighted the upward trend in per capita income.

Tiger Triumph-24: India-US bilateral HADR exercise

  • India and the United States (US) Navy have started a bilateral Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise named “Tiger Triumph-24” off the eastern coast of India.
  • The week-long exercise, which began on March 18, 2024, will involve various assets of the Indian Navy, Indian Army and Indian Air Force, as well as warships and troops from the US Navy, US Marine Corps and US Army.
