Putin secured a fifth presidential term
- Russian President Vladimir Putin has won a resounding presidential election, extending his nearly quarter-century rule for another six years.
- The election has been criticized by Western nations and opposition groups as lacking democratic legitimacy.
- Despite criticism, Putin has hailed the verdict as vindication of his decision to defy the West and invade Ukraine.
- Early returns from the Central Election Commission showed that Putin received approximately 87 percent of the vote, with close to 60 percent turnout.
Signal Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG)
- As a significant step towards preparing for the future of warfare, the Indian Army has established the “Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group” (STEAG), a first-of-its-kind specialized technology unit.
- STEAG's primary objective is to research and evaluate cutting-edge communication technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and 6G networks, machine learning and quantum technologies for defense applications.
- The creation of STEAG aligns with the Indian Armed Forces' need to equip itself with next-generation combat capabilities.
- In 2023, the Army decided to activate the Command Cyber Operations and Support Wing (CCOSW) for cyber warfare, demonstrating its commitment to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving technological landscape of modern warfare.
Liquidity Stress Test for Small and Mid-Cap Mutual Funds
- With an aim to enhance transparency and protect investors' interest, the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) has directed asset management companies (AMCs) to conduct monthly liquidity stress tests for their small and mid-cap mutual fund schemes.
- The results of these tests will be declared on the official portal of AMCs and on the website of AMFI by 15th of each subsequent month, based on the previous month's data.
- The decision has been taken in the wake of increased interest from retail investors in small and mid-cap stocks, which has created excitement in these segments of the market.
- Several fund houses have already taken steps to restrict lump sum investments in their small-cap schemes, citing concerns about liquidity and potential risk to investors.
New chemicals in plastics
- A new report published has revealed that there are at least 3,000 more chemicals in plastic than previously estimated by the Environment Agency.
- The study, conducted by a team of European scientists and funded by the Norwegian Research Council, identified more than 16,000 chemicals in plastic, a quarter of which are believed to be hazardous to human health and the environment.
- The discovery raises significant concerns about pollution and consumer safety, especially since plastics are ubiquitous in everyday items such as food packaging, toys, and medical devices.
Nepal declared Pokhara as its tourism capital
- Pokhara, a picturesque city in Gandaki province, has been officially declared by the government of Nepal as the tourism capital of the Himalayan nation to boost the tourism industry.
- The formal announcement was made at a special ceremony held at Barahi Ghat, situated on the shores of the stunning Phewa Lake.
- Known for its natural beauty and adventure tourism, Pokhara is known as the tourist hub of Nepal.
- However, the city was designated as the tourism capital only after fulfilling all the necessary criteria set by the government.
- The decision to officially declare Pokhara as the tourism capital is expected to further boost its reputation and attract more tourists from around the world.
- Australia defeated India by 10 wickets in the second match of the three ODI series. Batting first in this match played at Visakhapatnam, India scored 117 all out in 26 overs. In reply, Australia scored 121 runs in 11 overs to win the match. This was the biggest defeat of the Indian team in ODI history.
- This ODI match of 50-50 overs ended in 37 overs. Australia returned to the series by winning this match. Not only that, a historic victory was recorded. Became the first team to win two ODIs against India by 10 wickets. Now both the teams have won one match each in the series and the third match to be played in Chennai on March 22 will be decisive.
- This is the biggest defeat by the Indian team in terms of ball balance in ODI cricket. Australia won the match with 234 balls left in the innings. Earlier, New Zealand had achieved this feat in 2019. New Zealand defeated Team India with 212 balls to spare. Apart from this, one team has reached the target in the least number of overs against India. Earlier, New Zealand defeated India by 93 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 14.4 overs in Hamilton in 2019.

Police recruitment process written exam on 26th March for driver post and 2nd April for constable
- After waiting for almost two and a half months after the field exam, the written exam for police recruitment has been announced. For the post of driver On March 26, while for the post of constable dt. The written exam will be held on April 2. Information in this context was given by District Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola.
- Written exam for police recruitment is being conducted simultaneously in entire Maharashtra except Mumbai. 93 candidates have been qualified for 10 driver posts in the city district police force, while 1606 candidates have been qualified for 129 police constable posts. The written exam will be of 90 minutes duration and carry 100 marks. Its nature will be 'objective'.
- The recruitment process was started for 139 posts of drivers and constables in the district police force. A total of 11278 applications were received. Out of them 6707 candidates appeared for field test. 3669 candidates remained absent. Two candidates refused to appear for the test. Out of the appeared candidates, 6721 candidates qualified for the test held in the first week of January. 883 candidates were qualified in the pre-test screening.
- Out of 6721 candidates who appeared for the test, 3278 candidates passed. 3443 candidates have been failed for securing less than 25 marks. 219 candidates passed for 10 driver posts, 3059 candidates passed for 129 constable posts. They have been qualified for the written test in order of merit.
